Swim School Safety Weeks
Did you know Swim School runs safety skills weeks?
Enrolling your child in swimming lessons is a really important step towards making your child safer and more confident in the water. Our Swim school runs safety skills weeks throughout the year to teach age appropriate safety to your little swimmer.
This week is the first of two weeks focused on safety skills. Here's what we will be covering:
- Week 1 - Safety & Rescues Week (27 March)
As we are a deep-water venue, it is important to us that we constantly provide swimmers with the tools to stay safe around water, no matter what level they are in.
For Week 1, we are looking at Safety & Rescues; teaching our younger children about the AQUA Code, who the lifeguards are and what they do, and what to do if they accidentally fall into the pool. For our older children, we are looking at different types of rescues and the importance of a Primary Survey (DRSABCD). - Week 2 - Survival Swim Week (3 April)
For Week 2 of Safety Week, our younger children are continuing to learn about safety around the pool and our older kids will be looking at completing a survival swim. It is encouraged for swimmers in Level 4 and above to bring pyjamas to wear over their bathers to practice their level’s ‘Water Safety Sequence.’ These scenarios help swimmers learn what it is like to swim in clothes.
